With large and uneven (5 feet) shifting peaks making wave selection crucial, competitors in semi final 1 all shared the lead at various stages before the all round repertoire of moves from Dane Pioli, (NSW) saw him snatch the win from Jackson Close (Qld). Semi final 2 saw big moves from 2006 World Champion Josh Constable (Qld), including a huge airdrop floater, win comfortably from fellow Queenslander Mitch Surman.

Cori Schumacher (California, USA), 33, has won the Roxy ASP Women’s World Longboard Championships today in Biarritz, at the world famous venue of La Côte des Basques defeating fellow finalist Kaitlin Maguire (California, USA), 22, in clean two-to-three foot (0.5 to 1 meter) waves in a 100% American heat.

Claiming her first ever ASP World title after several years amongst the world’s best female longboarders’ contingent, Schumacher stepped-up to her reputation to dominate the last action-packed day of the contest posting the event’s highest single-wave and heat scores respectively a 9.25 and 17.25 points.

Gony Zubizarreta (ESP) 25, today claimed this year’s Cordoama Buondi Pro title an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Men’s Star- Series 1-Star event over coming former ASP 2009 Dream Tour member Marlon Lipke (DEU) in the long awaited 35-minute show down between the events two top seeded surfers.

A slight drop in the swell did little to halt the explosive surfing witnessed today at Praia da Cordoama. Waves in the 3ft (1m) range improved as the tide pushed in forming peaks on the inside shore break offering the perfect scene for the huge crowd to watch the action unfold.

Chris Friend (Alex Headland, Qld) today won the prestigious Mick Fanning Red Bull Junior Surf Masters held at Broadbeach (Gold Coast, Australia).

In excellent, one-metre conditions, Friend outpointed youngster Matt Banting (Port Macquarie, NSW), in a thrilling final which was decided by the smallest of margins.

In a seesawing final, Friend posted a combined two-wave heat total of 14.60 (out of a possible 20) to Banting’s 14.50 clinching the win by only 0.10 of a point.

Soli Bailey and Kirsten Ogden, both Suffolk Park NSW local surfers, have added their names to one of surfing’s greatest honour rolls by taking out the 16 year and under boy and girl divisions of the 2010 Rusty Gromfest.

On an excellent final day with clean offshore winds and quality waves to 1.5m (3 to 4 feet), the two Byron Bay locals saved their best performances for the final and both scored excellent to outstanding rides to nail their victories.

Battling through their respective quarter-final encounters each remaining surfer has staked his claim on this year’s Cordoama Buondi Pro title.

Persistently strong cross-shore winds made for another day of tough competition where wave selection played a large role in securing a win. Peaks in the 3-4ft (1-1.2m) range improved slightly as the tide pushed in during the early afternoon session of competition.

Local surfer Jock Bahen (Cottesloe) caused a major upset today when he eliminated current World Longboard surfing champion Harley Ingleby (Emerald Beach) during the opening round of the ASP Longboard Qualifying Series. Being surfed in trying conditions at Iso’s Reef at Cottesloe Beach in Western Australia, Bahen rocked the crowd when he scored the days highest wave score to go from 4th to 1st and push Ingleby into 3rd.

The heat was eventually won by former World Champion Josh Constable (Qld), who looks set to continue his push for a second world title later this year.

Jordy Smith (Dbn), 22, etched his name into the history books today, becoming the third ever South African winner of the ASP 5-Star Mr Price Pro Ballito, simultaneously moving into the No. 1 position on the ASP World Rankings.

Smith defeated South Coast star Casey Grant (Scottburgh) in the Final to claim an emotional victory before his home crowd. Riding high on the shoulders of his friends, some of Durban's finest surfers, as the crowds exploded into cheers of support, Smith was awarded his enormous R121 000 winner's cheque.

The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Cordoama Buondi Pro 1-star Men’s Star-Series event ran through to complete round one of competition at the main contest site of Praia de Cordoama. After waiting for conditions to improve with the incoming tide event officials gave the green light for this year’s edition of the Cordoama Buondi Pro to get underway.

Peaky 3ft (1m) waves were on offer for day one as the heavy cloud cover brought some relief after a week of extremely high temperatures here in Cordoama. Conditions were tough for the final heats as the cross-shore winds increased from the North.
