The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Cordoama Buondi Pro 1-star Men’s Star-Series event ran through to complete round one of competition at the main contest site of Praia de Cordoama. After waiting for conditions to improve with the incoming tide event officials gave the green light for this year’s edition of the Cordoama Buondi Pro to get underway.

Peaky 3ft (1m) waves were on offer for day one as the heavy cloud cover brought some relief after a week of extremely high temperatures here in Cordoama. Conditions were tough for the final heats as the cross-shore winds increased from the North.

Tow-In: authorities are nice in Australia | Photo: Shalom Jacobovitz

Tow-in surfers from Western Australia have reasons to be happy. The official safety procedures require a spotter behind the jet ski driver, but the Department of Transport is exempting tow-in surfing rules for another 12 months.

The authorities believe everything is OK with the sport and everyone seems to have full respect for the general nautical rules and laws.

Kobi Graham is injured after serious wipe out at Cape Solander

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Kobi Graham: it hurts

Bondi Rescue lifeguard Kobi Graham suffered a hideous wipe out at Cape Solander mid afternoon on Sunday May 30. Kobi took off on a slabbing 6-8ft bomb and kind of nose dived, free falling head first into the reef at “Ours”.

For those that don’t know “Ours” is a notorious big wave surf spot just outside the entrance to Botany Bay. The wave comes out of deep water before literally exploding on a shallow barnacle encrusted rock ledge no more than 10 metres in front of the sheer cliff face. Kobi fractured two vertebrae, meaning he broke his neck in layman’s terms.

Watch the video of this terrible wipe out, HERE.
