A stunning coastline, delicious food and epic surfing – these are just a few ways visitors to the laid-back coastal town of Jeffreys Bay would describe it. There’s plenty of local charm thrown into the mix too, but for many, it’s the town’s reputation as a surf mecca that really leaves them coming back for more.
Considered one of the top five destinations for surfing, Jeffreys Bay attracts surfers from every corner of the world. While the waves are certainly a year-round attraction, JBay really comes alive when the temperature drops, and July is a wonderful time to visit. The reason? The JBay Surf Fest is one of the highlights on any surfer or spectator’s calendar, and takes place every July without fail.
Considered one of South Africa’s largest sport and music festivals, JBay Surf Fest is set to take place between 11 and 20 July. It blends world-class surfing with a vibrant mix of music, community events, and sport, making it a highlight on the national calendar.
Event goers have the chance to experience electrifying performances by top entertainers like Dean Fuel, Zakes Bantwini and more, while having the chance to see top surfers riding the legendary waves of Supertubes as the World Surf League’s Championship Tour makes its way to Jeffreys Bay once again.
The Corona Cero Open J-Bay
The Corona Cero Open J-Bay is just one of the many highlights that form part of the JBay Surf Fest, and this year is bound to be a good one. Along with having the chance to watch a plethora of talented surfers from around the world, spectators can also cheer on world number and South African-born Jordy Smith. After a hiatus, the pro is set to return to the iconic Supertubes as he aims for the 2025 World Title.
Don’t miss your chance to see numerous high-performance surfers in action at one of the world’s most iconic surf spots:

Beyond the exciting energy of the JBay Surf Festival, surfers from around the world flock to this seaside gem to ride some of the best waves. But where do you go when Supertubes Beach is all you know?
Here are a few Jeffreys Bay Surf spots to check out on your visit:
Kitchen Windows
Once upon a time, fishermen used to call this spot Little Reef. In the 1960s, it quickly became a popular hangout for surfers who used to peek outside their kitchen windows to check if the surf was good. Today, it’s still a popular spot for surfing, and you can find it between Supertubes and Albatross. It’s known for its long rides, and is ideal for intermediates and experienced surfers. When the waves are a bit smaller, it’s also great for beginners too!
Magna Tubes
This is an exposed reef that provides fast and powerful right-hand waves that can offer excellent barrels. It’s not as popular as surf spots like Supertubes, but it does attract experienced surfers looking to test their skills since it’s great for practising quick manoeuvres and tight turns. It offers incredible surf, but can be a little tricky, so be sure to watch out for sharp rocks and mussel shells.
Boneyards
Don’t let the name discourage you, this is actually one of the most consistent spots to surf and usually links up with Supertubes for long and clean waves. In fact, the waves are so perfect that experienced surfers can actually ride some waves for a kilometre. It’s a dual-breaking wave that you can find at the top of the legendary J-Bay point, just to the east of Supertubes. It can be challenging, offering hollow waves that’s best suited for experienced surfers.
Albatross
Albatross is less crowded than its famous neighbour Supertubes, but it is popular amongst experienced surfers who are looking to enjoy fast and hollow waves. It’s a lot softer and slower than Supertubes – but don’t let that fool you. What makes this such a tricky spot for beginners is its reef and rock outcrops, which can be difficult to navigate if you don’t know how to handle reef breaks. Sharp mussel beds also add to this surf spot’s difficulty level, so it’s always advised to be cautious when navigating this spot.
Main Beach (Dolphin Beach)
There’s something for beginners, too! Main Beach is usually where beginners learn to surf as there’s no reef to cut your feet and plenty of dolphins to keep you company. Along with frolicking dolphins to cheer you on, Main Beach offers smaller, slower, and more manageable waves that are perfect for learning. The sandy bottom also adds to the ease of your experience as the soft sand makes falling safer and reduces the risk of injury.
Supertubes
The crown jewel of J-Bay! It’s possibly one of the most famous waves in the world – and for good reason. It’s known for its incredibly long, fast and perfectly-shaped right-hand point break, with some waves peeling for over 300 metres! It offers world-class waves and has become the location for the prestigious Corona Open J-Bay, along with other world surf league championship tour events.
